Getting started

Which domains can I backorder?

.se, .nu and .fi domains. They're all in the same domain list and booked the same way. A few things differ for .fi – see How do .fi domains differ from .se and .nu?

Why is a .fi domain missing from the list?

Our list of .fi domains about to be released isn't complete, so a domain you're after may be missing. You can suggest it to us under Domains → Suggest missing .fi domains in the customer portal. We check the domain's expiry date with the registry, usually within a few minutes.

If the domain can be caught, it's added to the domain list right away. If the release is further off, we keep an eye on it and add it 24 days before. Suggesting isn't the same as booking – the domain becomes visible to all customers, and whoever books first gets it. You can suggest up to 50 domains at a time and 200 per day.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Indukon is an accredited registrar with the Swedish Internet Foundation for .se and .nu, and a registered registrar with Traficom (formerly Ficora) for .fi. That means we register domains directly with the registries, with no middlemen. See our accreditations.

How do I get an account?

Click Create account and fill in your details. We review and approve all new accounts manually, so you can't log in straight away. We'll email you once your account is approved.

What are dropcatching, snapback and backorder?

Three names for the same thing: registering a domain name as quickly as possible when it's released after the previous holder failed to renew it.

Is there an API?

Yes. Our API lets you connect your own systems to the service. It's enabled on request, so contact us if you'd like to use it.

Booking and pricing

Does it cost anything to backorder?

No. You only pay for domains we manage to register for you on release day.

Who gets the domain if several people want it?

Whoever books first. Each domain can only be backordered by one customer. Even though they're called bids, there's no bidding – a later bid can never beat an earlier one, no matter what anyone is willing to pay.

Your booking confirmation shows immediately which domains you got and which someone else booked first.

How does pricing work?

We use a Dutch auction. The price drops by roughly 20–30% each day closer to release, from SEK 2,075 seven days before to SEK 360 the day before (excl. VAT). The same prices apply to .se, .nu and .fi. The price when you book is what you pay. See the full price table.

How do .fi domains differ from .se and .nu?

The prices are the same, but a .fi domain closes for booking one day earlier than a .se or .nu domain with the same release date. A .fi domain released on the 27th is booked and priced exactly like a .se domain released on the 26th.

The result for a .fi domain comes the morning after its release day, and the search volume in the domain list counts searches on Google in Finland.

Can others see which domains I've booked?

No. Your bookings are visible only to you. Anyone trying to book the same domain only learns that it's already booked – never by whom.

Can I cancel a booking?

No. A completed booking is binding. Until you complete it, you can remove domains from your cart as usual.

Why didn't I get a domain I booked?

Sometimes the registration doesn't succeed – for example if the previous holder renewed at the last minute, or someone else registered it before us. You're never invoiced for a domain we couldn't register for you.

Can I get an email when I win a domain?

Yes. Turn on Email about won domains under Settings. Each morning when the day's results are ready, you'll get an email listing the domains you won.

Invoices and payment

How do I get an invoice?

Go to My bids and click Invoice won bids. If you don't request one yourself, we send invoices for won domains automatically once a month.

How do I pay?

All payments are handled by Stripe. Open the invoice from the link in the invoice email and pay by card. Invoices in euros can also be paid by bank transfer to the IBAN on the invoice. Payment terms are 30 days.

Do prices include VAT?

Dropcatch prices are shown excluding VAT, and Swedish VAT is added to the invoice. If you're a business in another EU country with a valid VAT number, you're invoiced without Swedish VAT.

Can I be invoiced in euros?

Yes. Choose EUR under Billing currency in Settings. The amount is converted at the day's exchange rate and rounded up to whole euros.

Managing domains

How do I change name servers?

Go to My domains and click Set DNS. You can do this as soon as you've won the domain – no need to wait for the invoice to be paid.

How do I renew a domain?

A renewal covers one year and costs SEK 160 excl. VAT. Click Renew 1 year under My domains, or turn on automatic renewal. We always email you before a domain expires.

How do I transfer a domain to another registrar?

Click Request auth code under My domains and give the code to your new registrar. The auth code is released once the domain has been paid for.
